2nd digital paper attempt. This time the inspiration was Urban Couture, Basic Grey. These papers were created using brushes in Photoshop: Fresh Foliage 2 and RecifeDirty2.
I've been experimenting with Photoshop brushes and thought I might create my own papers. I used the Fancy Pants Kewl Exquisite paper as my inspiration.
Here is the original.
This is the result. Let me know what you think.

The pictures on this layout are from the Silver Jubilee in 1977. Getting them was a nightmare. First the original is actually an 8mm cine film that was projected onto a screen and recorded with our analog video camera (this was a few years ago). Then the analog tape was recorded onto my computer using a video capture card. Then screen shots were taken from the movie.
In the end it was worth it as these are the only pictures I have of this event and are especially important to me as my best friend/next door neighbour Claire and her brother are also included. However, they are lo-res and I will be interested to see how they look when printed out.
Also, I'm not sure of this title. Originally it was called "Silver Jubilee" but I just know that my friend Bonnie (who is a great page titler) would say that was boring and challenge me to come up with something more interesting. So I was looking for a play on words related to "cube", "gravy" or "stock" and this is what I came up with, but I think it might be a bit harsh for the subject matter.
Thoughts, comments?

I've been reluctant to use this photo taken back in June 2006 as it is a little blurry but I saw it go by on my desktop (I have a viewer that shows you all the pics on your hard drive) and thought that I *had* to scrapbook it, so here it is.
This is another digital layout, using a kit produced by the Weeds & Wildflowers digital scrapbook team. No advanced techniques here other than using a corner rounder brush from Jessica Sprague.
I'm really enjoying these digital layouts and can't believe how fast I can pull them together. The only snag seems to be that I am producing single page layouts rather than my usual two page (mainly because you can really only fit one page on the screen in Photoshop).
Totally CASEd from a sample Cheryl Overton has on display at my local scrapbook store.
The frame is really an old cupboard door that has been painted/distressed. The papers are from SU! April Shower. The letters are attached to Basic Grey chipboard monograms.
Hope you like it. I'll be making one for my daughter next.

I enjoyed the digital scrapbooking process so much (and I learned so much about Photoshop CS3) that I had to try my hand at another one. This one isn't quite so adventurous as the first one (using less techniques) but has more elements.
It uses the Dude Totally kit from Tia Bennett. I distressed the edges of the photo with a grunge brush and using the Impact font to type over the photo (something I've been doing recently with my paper layouts using craft ink).
I'm working my way up to digitally tearing papers but haven't quite got there yet. In the meantime here's my layout.
Let me know what you think.
I'm often unable to go down into the basement to scrap but do have computer access upstairs. So I thought that perhaps I could do some digital scrapbooking.
Digital scrapbooking is something I've looked into before but I have always been put off because of a) learning Photoshop; b) not having a wide format printer (or be willing to scrap 8.5 x 11).
Anyway, I learned that Costco has a 12x18 photo option for $2.99 (compare to walmart $10.97) and that many digi scrapbookers print a 12x12 and use the remaining 6x12 for 3 4x6 photos. So I downloaded a few kits and made my first digital layout today.
It uses paper and grunge frames from Jessica Sprague, and a foliage brush set. Let me know what you think.
Yesterday I made another project using my coasters, a coaster box. This box was originally designed (not by me) as a gift box with an open top but can be used for storage too. I plan to use mine for a telephone message center with a cube of notepaper, pens, pencils etc.
Here are the steps:
- Cover 5 coasters on both sides using paper and a corner rounder if your coasters have rounded corners. Make sure the edges are glued down well.
- Take 4 coasters. These coasters will become the walls of the box. Punch holes along two opposite edges on each coaster, making sure the holes are evenly spaced. An odd number of holes is suggested. These punched edges will be the corners of the box.
- Punch two holes into each corner of the 5th coaster (the bottom) on a diagonal.
- Thread ribbon through the two holes on one corner of the bottom coaster and then up inside the box.
- Thread the ribbon ends through the bottom hole on the side wall (from inside to outside).
- Lace the ribbon up through the holes and then tie a bow on the outside. Note: If you use an even number of holes you will need to reuse the last hole like I did.
- Here is the finished box.
I hope you enjoyed this project, I did.
What scrapbook products/lines do you dislike? I don’t know if I actually dislike anything in particular but I’m not a big fan of dated looking stuff. Not cool dated stuff (retro or vintage) but the scrapbooking stuff that you associate with middle aged women wearing sweaters with pictures on them.
I can tell you I what I really love: Bazzill cardstock and Basic Grey patterned papers/alphabets/tags/monograms. I could scrap with just those two things (and some tombow mono of course!).
What’s the hardest thing you’ve had to scrap? The thing that I thought would be the hardest to scrap (9/11) actually wasn’t once I got going as I had lots to say in my journaling. However, the emotions that it raised even 5 years after the event were still raw.
What technique do you use more than anything else? I don’t use a lot of techniques, preferring simpler pages. Currently my favorite technique is stamped titles using SU! Craft inks.
What is the smallest scrap of paper you save? If I can punch it with my SU! Word window punch it gets saved.
Have you had any scrapping related injuries? Actually yes, I borrowed my friends CM wavy trimmer and put my thumb across the blade. It gushed with blood for ages and I had to scrap the rest of the night with a band aid.
Finish this sentence…’If I weren’t a scrapbooker/stamper, I’d spend my money on.. photography equipment. There are so many lenses and accessories that I *need* but my wallet can't afford. Top of the list would be a nice f2.8 zoom (maybe the Nikon 35-70 or the Tamron 28-75), a 35 f/2 and 85 f/1.8. I could also use my own lighting studio (umbrella, light stands and strobes).
Give your best storage organizational tool. Cropper Hopper paper holders are fantastic. I have several in both 12x12 and 8 ½ x 11. My other favorite organizational tool is a garden tools organizer that I picked up for $8 at Home Sense. It has a handle on each end and 6 divided sections that I use for adhesives, tools, and other things that stand upright. I also like the CM pen holder that lies flat and doesn’t roll off the desk.
You just won a week long scrapping cruise for 5. Who is going with you? Yikes, tough question. My friend Bonnie (she is great company and she always has plenty of diet pepsi), Andrea Wiebe (for her uplifting layouts that often involve doodling and faithbooking), Becky Higgins (who wouldn’t want to take her), Ali Edwards (for creative inspiration), Rhonna Farrer (‘cos I’m trying to get into a little digital scrapping). Hopefully all the famous people wouldn't just ignore us!

Well thanks to my friend Bonnie who has gazillion coasters, I now have my own stash. I have been wanting to make a coaster album for a while and what better excuse than Mother's Day. I have made two albums, one for my mum and the other for my mother-in-law (if you are my MIL - don't read the rest of this post!).
Each album is made from 10 coasters. I have put patterned paper on both sides of the coaster using a corner rounder so that the corners lined up. I used a binder ring to hold the coasters together and tied ribbons around the ring. Because both of these albums are to be mailed (one to the UK), I opted not to use any bulky embellishments.
I printed off 18 wallet sized photos of my kids etc from the last 6 months or so and put one on each page. I decorated each page as well as the front and back of the album with SU! craft ink (Old Olive, Chocolate Chip and Cameo Coral) and the Delight in Life SAB stamp set from SU!
Pictures are below:
Let me know what you think! I can't wait to make another more embellished version.

Thanks for tagging me Tara! Ok, this is the first time Marina's Studio has been tagged. The idea is to list 7 things that people don't necessarily know about you. So here goes:
1. I have only been doing crafts since just before Kyra was born (three years ago). I took so many pictures that creating a scrapbook seemed like a good idea. Stamping soon followed, and after some major diversions with stamping, I am now spending my time scrapbooking (stamping is really fun, and doesn't require the same amount of time or planning as scrapbooking).
2. I have a craft closet. I used to have a craft room but that has been converted into my art studio (see point below). My closet used to look like this but now it is more full and more messy.
3. I took up pastel painting just over a year ago and found I really enjoyed it and wasn't bad either. Here are some of my works.
4. Like Tara, I too am a great speller and a speedy reader. However, I am often known not to finish a book. I'm great at buying them, starting them and leaving them on my bedside table otherwise known as the Mt. Everest of books. I'd call myself a collector ....
5. I don't have any pets, just kids. If I had a pet, I'd get a dog as my parents bred, showed, judged, Boxers all my childhood.
6. I lived in Ankara, Turkey (5 mths) and San Francisco (3 mths) before moving to Canada.
7. While I enjoy scrapbooking, stamping, photography and art, my lifelong passion is actually genealogy. I have been researching my family history for 16 years and have also been researching Craig's since our marriage. I have taught seminars on Internet Genealogy, using a Family History Center, Getting Started, US Genealogy and Genealogy Software. I am the staff trainer at the Kelowna Family History Center (Glenmore Rd) and used to volunteer at the Burnaby Family History Center when I lived on the coast. I recently had an article published in the May issue of Internet Genealogy magazine.
Hmmm, this looks like an idea for a scrapbook page. I challenge those that tag (Tara) to create one of their 7 things.
